Tennesseans for Student Success on Tuesday kicked off their third annual summer reading initiative, Tristar Reads.
The college scholarship opportunity encourages students to spend at least twenty minutes a day imagining their adventure in a book.
“Tristar Reads is a fun and rewarding way to encourage reading during the summer months,” said Tennesseans for Student Success President and CEO Adam Lister. “We’re inviting all Tennessee students – from Kindergarten to 12th grade – to read with us this summer. As they read and log their reading time at TristarReads.com, they will be entered to win one of our three $1,000 college scholarships.”
Lister continued: “When we meet with educators across the state, we hear about a key component missing in students’ summers: daily reading. Three years ago, we launched Tristar Reads to encourage students to spend twenty minutes a day reading and help stop the summer literacy slide. The lack of continued reading can cause a drop in proficiency. As our students excitedly head to the next grade, we wanted to make sure they were ready for success on day one.”
Tristar Reads runs from May 1 – September 7 and is open to all Tennessee students. Visit TristarReads.com for rules of entry, suggested reading lists, and more information.
