METRO NASHVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

Fatal traffic accident investigators on Friday charged James Mosley, 76, with failure to yield the right of way resulting in a death for Wednesday afternoon’s pickup truck-motorcycle collision at the intersection of Highway 70 and Newsom Station Road in Bellevue.

George Bickford, 69, was killed in the crash.

Bickford was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Highway 70 at 4:35 p.m. when the westbound Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Mosley, began to turn left onto Newsom Station Road and pulled in front of Bickford.

The motorcycle collided with the front passenger side of the pickup truck. Bickford was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. Mosley was not seriously hurt.  There was no sign of alcohol or drug use on the part of Mosley.

The charge against Mosley is a misdemeanor.  He was issued a state citation and must report for booking next month.

According to the Tennessee Department of Safety, there were 2,701 motorcycle crashes in Tennessee last year. Of those crashes, 166 were fatal.
