Heat advisory and severe thunderstorm watch issued for Williamson, Maury counties

The National Weather Service has issued both a heat advisory and a severe thunderstorm watch for Williamson and Maury Counties. The heat advisory will remain in effect until 7 p.m., with the severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9 p.m.

Regarding the heat advisory, while temperatures are expected to stay between the high 80s and low 90s, strong humidity will bring the heat index upward of 109 degrees.

“A Heat Advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected,” writes the National Weather Service in its advisory. “The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”

“To reduce risk during outdoor work, occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments,” the advisory continues. “Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.”
